HISTORY

The Malankara Syrian Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church has had a prominent role in the advancement of education in the State of Kerala especially in the last few decades; it has established hundreds of primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, industrial training institutes, and many professional colleges. Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar Campus was founded in 1949 by the Servant of God Archbishop Geevarghese Mar Ivanios. The educational campus emerged from the educational vision of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church in the State of Kerala. The sprawling 43 hectares of verdant campus, abundant in natural beauty is an ideal learning environment. The campus is blessed with 17 centers of excellence in education. The campus has been named “Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar” in fond remembrance of Archbishop Mar Ivanios, the founder of Mar Ivanios College, the first educational institution on the campus. Other Institutions on the campus are, to name a few, Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Mar Gregorios College of Law, Mar Theophilos Training College, Sarvodaya Schools (Both CBSE and ICSE), and Bethany Navajeevan College of Physiotherapy, Jayamatha ITC, Brilliant Study Centre, etc.

St. John's Model HSS was founded in 1957 by His Grace Most Reverend Benedict Mar Gregorios, the second Metropolitan Archbishop of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Major Archepiscopal Church. The school was envisioned as a Model School for the Mar Theophilus Training College. In 2000, when Pre-degree courses were delinked from the colleges, the Government of Kerala sanctioned a Higher Secondary wing in St. John's Model High School in order to continue the facilities once rendered by Mar Ivanios College. This was another milestone in the glorious journey of the Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar Campus. The School is administered by the Major Archdiocese of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Major Archepiscopal Church through the Malankara Catholic Educational Society of the Archdiocese of Trivandrum.

The government-aided school came to function with Shri. John Jacob as the first Headmaster and Shri. K.O. Thomas holds the position of the first principal. Today, Rev. Fr. Jose Charuvil and Ms. Rani. M Alex respectively decorates the chairs of the Principal and the Vice-Principal. 

The school offers High School and Higher Secondary education to both girls and boys in English and Malayalam medium as well. Over the past few years, the school has made exponential growth in its performance and results. For the last 7 consecutive years, the school secured a 100% pass result in the SSLC exam and has been consistent in acquiring greater results in the Plus Two exams. In addition to curricular activities, the school provides various development programs such as Literary Associations, NSS, NCC (air wing and army), SPC, KCSL, Counselling and Career Guidance, and Sauhrida Club.

Today St. John’s Model HSS has bagged much reputation and has come to the fore among other distinguished schools in and around the city. With such an eminence in its performance, St. John’s MHSS has now emerged as one of the most sought-after schools not only in the district but also at the state level. The school caters to the educational needs of all social strata.

1990 - Elevated to Mixed School

2000- Elevated to Higher Secondary School. Mar Gregorios Block was inaugurated.

2001 – Started English Medium in High School.

2002 – State Award for Best Teacher to the Principal Mr. K O Thomas

2004 – School Office Block was inaugurated

2007 – Celebrated Golden Jubilee

2008 – Became District Level Runners-Up in Higher Secondary Youth Festival

2016 - Became Sub-District Level Over All Champions in Higher Secondary Youth Festival

2017- Celebrated Diamond Jubilee

- Secured 100% Result in SSLC
